Shama, Finance Controller, Special Projects

Meet Shama, a strong believer of possibilities becoming real if your heart and soul are into it.

Shama is a Finance Controller Special Projects in the Optical Fiber and Cable business.

“This is my eighth year at Corning and I can proudly say that Corning has given me opportunities to broaden my horizon as a professional.”

Shama joined Corning in 2012 as a Finance Manager at the Fiber plant where her key responsibilities involved taking care of various audits, legal compliances, treasury and taxation.

“In 2015, I took over as the Plant Controller and gave myself a target of ‘lowest cost of production’. And trust me, it fills your heart with pride and humility the moment you are introduced as the controller of the plant who has contributed towards making production at the lowest cost.”

“When I joined Corning, what I loved about this job was the support I received, and the confidence shown in my capabilities. The most important of all is the exposure it gave me to interact with people from different countries and different businesses.”

“I want the young women in Corning to set personal and professional goals for themselves, be responsive and result driven. I would also like to see them manage themselves thoughtfully. One should always take a pause, look beyond what has been achieved and what needs to be achieved." signs off Shama.

We are proud of professionals like Shama who are shaping a brighter, clearer future by accepting new challenges and setting great examples of “possibilities becoming real”.

“Through my career choices, one myth that I am shattering is that women in the workplace are risk averse. It has nothing to do with the gender."
