BINGO and Bowling for charity and wellness – one strike at a time

A partnership between Corning Singapore and The Singapore Disability Sports Council focuses on the health of employees, while raising money for a para bowling team.

Could you bowl 50 strikes and spares? What if it was for charity? What about challenging yourself to completing as many wellness-themed activities in a BINGO game?

Colleagues in Corning’s ASEAN offices are attempting bowling and BINGO targets to raise money forThe Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC),an organization that transforms the lives of people with disabilities through sport. The team-bonding events take place between Sept. 20 and Nov. 30.

The partnership aims to make mental and physical wellness a priority amid the challenge COVID-19 time, but it also helps SDSC’s fundraising efforts.

康宁employees hope to raise $12,000 to support SDSC’s para bowling team. Donations will be matched dollar for dollar under Project Resilience, an approved project under local grantmaker Tote Board’s Enhanced Fundraising Programme that supports initiatives to help the underserved within the community.

For three years, employees have rallied together to contribute to SDSC’s cause, raising $6,500 for SDSC in 2018. In 2019, they donated $15,528 to para athletes participating in the OCBC Cycle 2019 and SDSC’s athletics development team. During the event, Corning colleagues rode alongside para athletes in a nod to inclusion.

The “Corning Well-Being Challenge” in 2020 featured a variety of wellness activities, including a virtual mini concert, raising $19,426 for SDSC.

“SDSC is privileged to count on Corning as one of our key partners in raising awareness for disability sports and as a corporate giver. The continued support over the last three years have been instrumental for SDSC’s programmes and we look forward to continued, elevated partnetrship in the years to come.” – Ms Kelly Fan, Executive Director, SDSC.

Donations will go directly to the Singapore Disability Sports Council and will be channelled to SDSC's tenpin bowling programme administered by theBowling Association for the Disabled (Singapore) (BADS).
